⚠️ Best practices and recommendations for the use of lithium batteries and containment equipment (fire blankets and anti-propagation bags)
Last updated: April 2025
At Lithium Secure, safety is at the heart of our mission. The use of lithium batteries, as well as our containment equipment (fire blankets and anti-propagation bags), requires strict precautions. Please read the following guidelines carefully.
🔋 Safe Use of Lithium Batteries: Best Practices
Secure Storage
- Ideal temperature: Store batteries in a dry, temperate environment between 10 °C and 30 °C. Avoid direct heat sources and excessive humidity.
- Avoid impacts: Do not drop or expose batteries to strong impacts. Handle with care to prevent damage.
- Terminal protection: Protect battery terminals to prevent short circuits.
Safe Charging
- Original charger: Use only the charger provided by the manufacturer and follow the manual’s instructions.
- Supervision: Never leave a battery charging unattended. Avoid charging overnight or when you’re away.
- Non-flammable surface: Charge the battery on a fire-resistant surface, such as metal or tile. Avoid flammable surfaces like beds or sofas.
- Ambient temperature: Do not charge the battery in environments that are too hot or cold. Favor a stable room temperature.
Handling Damaged Batteries
- Warning signs: If the battery is deformed, swollen, leaking, or emitting an unusual odor, do not use it.
- Isolation: Immediately isolate the damaged battery and store it away from other batteries.
- Professional intervention: Contact a qualified professional for battery disposal or repair.
🧯 Lithium Secure Fire Blankets
Our fire blankets are designed to slow the spread of a fire and offer temporary protection in the event of a lithium battery incident. They are not a substitute for emergency services.
- Dimensions: 8 x 6 m – Protection level 2
- Material: Fiberglass with silicone coating, heat-resistant up to 1,000 °C
- Usage: Deploy the blanket over the vehicle or burning object to contain the flames.
Important: Never put yourself at risk. In the case of a major fire or active thermal runaway, do not attempt to handle the blanket. Evacuate immediately and call emergency services. Our products are designed to slow down fire spread, not to extinguish it.
🔥 Lithium Secure Anti-Propagation Bags
Our anti-propagation bags are designed to contain a fire outbreak caused by a lithium battery (e.g., from an e-bike, scooter, power tool, etc.), especially in case of overheating or thermal runaway.
- Thermal protection: The materials provide a physical barrier against flame spread.
- Recommended use: Store your batteries in these bags when not in use, especially during charging, for maximum safety.
- Capacity: Compatible with standard lithium battery formats.
Important: Never put yourself at risk. In the case of a significant fire or ongoing thermal runaway, do not try to handle the bag. Evacuate the area immediately and call emergency services. Our products are meant to slow down fire propagation until professional help arrives.
Warning: The pressure generated by a battery during thermal runaway may cause the bag’s zippers to open. If the outside of the bag starts to burn, it is recommended to use an appropriate fire extinguisher (type ABC or CO₂) directly on the bag. Never use a water-based extinguisher directly on the battery, as it may worsen the situation.
